WALDORF — Representatives from Southern Maryland Business Network (SMBN) delivered a feast fit for a king on August 22. It was the perfect end to a steamy summer for recipient, William Young of Brandywine. Mr. Young was the winner of the group’s Annual Crab Feast Raffle.
Local businesses donated generously to make the summer feast complete. Scuttlebutt Restaurant & Marina, located at 12320 Neale Sound Drive in Cobb Island, donated the handselected bushel of steamed crabs and five pounds of seasoned steamed shrimp. Gardiner Produce contributed with a donation of corn on the cob (two dozen) and watermelon. Two dozen hot dogs and rolls were donated by Barnes Builders to keep the non-seafood crowd content.
SMBN is a local business networking group that adopts one non-profit organization per year. The group members organize several fundraisers throughout the year to support their adopted charity.
Charles County Shop with a Cop, elected by SMBN members, is benefiting from the fundraising efforts of the group in 2015. This year’s Crab Feast Raffle raised $5,360.25 for Shop with a Cop, providing a special day of shopping each December for local children who are in need. Each child is escorted by a Charles County police officer who assists with their shopping trip.
Other fundraisers throughout the year included a Bowl-a-Thon and an upcoming Basket Bingo planned for October 17, 2015 at the Newburg Rescue Squad and Volunteer Fire Department. Visit smbn.org for information about membership or events.
